Two coaches are better than one for '09 season By Zoe Chen The High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology (HSTAT) has one new member added to the Girl’s Volleyball Team this year, Coach Seung Yu. Yu never had any intention to take the HSTAT Girl’s volleyball team away from Coach Abby Barnett. With his help, Yu hopes that they will become stronger than last season. “I’m very excited that he joined the team. He’s a great addition for the girls, and I’m glad that he’s been there with them from the beginning and he really did … amazing work with them. They really showed a great transition and I see great things in the future with him,” Barnett replied. On November 6th, 2009 the last game against Lafayette High School, the team was in a close game, but they lost against them ending the overall score of 2-1. Throughout the season, they led three wins – nine loss in the season. “The goal is for us to win every game. As I told the girls, it’s not about the scoreboard. It’s more about the effort and taking advantage of every opportunity to be on the court and to be part of the team. Everyone usually judges a team by wins and loss. However, it’s more about the effort that they get out of this and the experience,” Yu said. Not only does the team have the full support from two coaches but of course also from the girls who are with them on the court. According to Captain Tiffany Weekes and Co-Captain Wendy Ng, HSTAT Girl’s Volleyball team has definitely improved since last season. Weekes and Ng have been on the team for the past three years and can definitely tell that they are going to make this year the best. “I do think the team got stronger. I think since last year, most of the girls we had are seniors now, and they have grown to adapt to this sport,” Captain Weekes said “Like, they know that they make mistakes, but they get past that. Their skills have definitely improved a lot, and they take this sport more seriously. They don’t see it as just a sport they play in high school; they see it as Volleyball like a good sport.” “For me, most of the girls from last year were seniors. But we’re the seniors now like all the starters are seniors. And like the newcomers are coming, I think we have more experience with them, like we’re teaching them how to play. I think this year is way better than last year,” Ng added.
