Future 3rd singles and 2nd doubles of the Handball team?

By Simon Huang

In the spring handball season of 2010, the second doubles and third singles spot is open to different people.

The current first singles is Joshua Garcia, second singles is Eric Lee, and the first doubles is going to be replaced by former second doubles Victor Kwok and David Chen.

"It's going to be an open competition," said handball team coach Lamicella. "For now Brian Quach is the best choice, unless someone else comes along and gets the spot."

"Brian has the potential to be a good third singles because he has the confidence and the skills," said team manager David Huang.

Both Coach Lamicella and Manager David Huang have confidence in Brian Quach. Brian expressed that he is not pressured by what the coach thinks. "I am up for it!" He said.

For second doubles Coach Lamicella is not sure who can take the spot and still does not have anyone in mind.

"The subs definitely have a shot at taking one of the spots if they practice over the summer and have gotten better" stated coach Lamicella.

While Coach Lamicella does not know who the 2nd doubles spot will go to, team manager David Huang has a different opinion.

"At this moment the second doubles could go to anyone, but Timothy Hui is most likely going to be one member of that team," said David Huang. "He has shown a great deal of skill for a beginner and his speed is a great asset."

"I am almost positive that I can do it," said Timothy Hui, a senior in HSTAT planning to join the handball team in the spring, "but I tend to switch sports all the time, from track to basketball to volleyball and then ping pong, so I hope I have enough time to prepare for this."

The Handball team is going to prepare for the spring season games soon in order to make it to the finals.

"We're going to start in March, and we are going to practice and plan some scrimmages against other teams," said Coach Lamicella.

Coach Lamicella expressed a lot of confidence in the team this year. He feels that they can go to the championship again this year.

"We are not only going to return this year, but we are going to win it," said Coach Lamicella. "It can be done."
