Real stars are behind the scenes: The Audio Visual Club By Zainab Toom The High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology has added a new club to its collection; it's called the Audio Visual Club. When the auditorium was renovated, a state-of-the-art audio visual booth was added in the balcony of the auditorium. With all the new equipment along with experience, Mr. Lipari, a teacher in HSTAT, decided to be the adviser. "The Audio Visual Club is about getting together students who are interested in the arts, and to figure out what it takes to put on a show, lighting and sound for theatrical productions," said Lipari. Mr. Lipari plans to teach the members of this new club how to use the collection of the new equipment which consists floor microphones, wireless microphones, a 32-channel sound board, digital projector and close to 100 individual lighting possibilities. Not only will he teach students how to use the equipment, but they will use their knowledge in school productions. "Any show, school, Broadway and off-Broadway show, movie or song, does not [and] could not function without people who are working behind the scenes. The 'magic' happens behind the scenes, in order for the illusion that the audience sees to be believable," said Mr. Lipari. Meghan Brown and Rania Kaouadji are members of the Audio Visual Club who participated in HSTAT’s school production "High School Magical". Brown stated that she felt powerful controlling the lighting for the show. While Kaouadji did the music and set up the stage microphones, Meghan did the lighting. “If I didn’t put the right light on, the whole show would be different,” said Brown, Both Brown and Kaouadji say that the AV club is a great experience, “It was a great opportunity that I took advantage of, it was a completely new experience for me but the time spent was well worth it… like Mr. Lipari says, ‘The real stars are behind the scenes,’” said Kaouadji
