Ms. Munnell takes over Amnesty International Club

By David Cruz

The High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology (HSTAT) has a new teacher managing the Amnesty International Club this year, and that is Ms. Munnell.

Amnesty International club is based on the world-wide movement that helps to protect human rights around the world.

“Amnesty International is a governmental organization which headquarters is set up in Europe . It was made for justice and to protect human rights. Amnesty International does letter writing for people in prison that don’t deserve to be there, and to protect their rights,” said Ms. Munnell.

The Amnesty International Club has been at HSTAT for as long as Ms. Munnell can remember. Ms Munnell has worked AT HSTAT for about 10 years, and she said it has been around since back then. This will be Ms. Munnell’s first year with Amnesty International. Ms. Rhoades another teacher from the English department managed the club up until this year.

Every club in HSTAT has a purpose. Amnesty International’s purpose is to show the students about important international issues.

“In Amnesty International club, students get to pick a world issue and work with that issue over the year to show people what the issue is about,” explained Ms. Munnell.

“This club can help the students because students can take interest in important issues and maybe even take action, “Added Ms Munnell

The Amnesty International Club here in HSTAT has not yet communicated or interacted with the real world-wide organization that is Amnesty International, but the club is hoping that someday they will communicate with the organization.

“There is no grade requirement to join Amnesty International. Anybody who is interested in joining or is interested in these international issues are very welcome to join,” said Ms. Munnell with a smile.
